Guidance & School Counseling
The school counseling department at Ramapo Ridge Middle School is comprised of three certified school counselors. Each student is assigned a school counselor who remains with the student and their class throughout the middle school experience. Our school counselors work closely with their counselees in all facets of their education and individual growth and development. Their work with students is anchored in the SEL competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, responsible decision-making, and relationship skills. School counselors work with students, staff, and parents/guardians on building students' executive function skills and effective learner behaviors, facilitating restorative practices, enhancing social skills, and fostering a sense of belonging. Students are able to engage individual and group counseling through our school counseling department.
Our school counselors routinely review available student data in the following domains: Attendance, Learning, Behavior, Social, and Health. The school counselors use the data to help inform interventions and tiered system of supports, as they partner with students, staff, and parents/guardians to develop goals and related action plans. Each of our three school counselors also serve as Anti-Bullying Specialists (ABS). Our school counselors often collaborate with outside providers, therapists, physicians, et al. as well as coaches, club advisors, performing arts/theater directors, et al. as they support the whole child.
