Attendance
The Board of Education requires that the pupils enrolled in the schools of this district attend school regularly in accordance with the laws of the state. The educational program offered by this district is predicated on the presence of the pupil and requires continuity of instruction and classroom participation. The regular contact of pupils with one another in the classroom and their participation in a well-planned instructional activity under the tutelage of a competent teacher are vital to this purpose.
Parents are expected to call the school at 201-762-2380 when a student is going to be absent. On the day of a student's absence, the school may call the parent or guardian to verify such absence. When you have been absent you are required to bring a signed note from home the day of your return to school. This note must explain why you were absent and be signed by a parent or guardian.
Students who are absent from school cannot participate in or attend extracurricular activities after school or in the evening on the day they were absent. Family vacations taken during days when school is in session are considered unexcused absences and will be indicated as such on school records.
*Additional details about attendance are in the Student / Parent Handbook and under Board Policy 5200
